Mobile laboratory BSL3

In the global fight against infectious diseases, particularly zoonotic ones, the Mobile Biological Field Laboratory is an innovative tool for preventing health crises. These BSL-3 mobile laboratories enable rapid response to epidemic spread by deploying state-of-the-art facilities directly to outbreak sites.

The mobile laboratory is an emergency unit capable of providing technical healthcare assistance and conducting field research in high-risk areas. The structure comprises an expandable shelter that is also transportable via C-130 aircraft, transitioning from a compact transport configuration to an operational space of 27 square meters. Additionally, two isolated, connectable insulated containers facilitate organized workflows.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology for virological and biomolecular diagnostics, the laboratory ensures high biological safety standards and meets modern epidemiological surveillance criteria for various infectious diseases. The setup includes two additional containers: one dedicated to sample collection and necropsy analyses and a mobile unit for technical logistical support services. In full operational mode, the system accommodates 7-8 personnel simultaneously.

A notable application of this product was during the avian influenza outbreak, when the Italian government provided scientist Ilaria Capua with a mobile laboratory, enabling on-site investigation of the virus's origin.
